Located across the street from the foot of the Seal Beach Pier, Bogart’s is a place to charge your batteries, catch up with friends or simply enjoy the view. Owner JoAnn Adams met up with us recently to talk about coffee drinking in Seal Beach.
DMGLB: How long has Bogart’s Coffee House been serving up coffee in Seal Beach?
JoAnn: Bogart’s opened in November of 2002, so we are almost at our 5 year anniversary.
DMGLB: Restaurants, donut shops, other coffee houses and even gas stations serve coffee—yet you have loyal customers who rarely go a day without coffee from Bogart’s. What’s your secret?
JoAnn: We offer a consistently great tasting organic coffee, good customer service, free Wi-Fi and you can’t beat the view of the Pacific!
DMGLB: Have your customers’ coffee drinking habits changed in recent years? How so?
JoAnn: As people become more conscious of demanding higher quality and also good tasting ingredients, they appreciate what we have to offer in organic coffee. Also, coffee houses are not only about the coffee, but the feeling of community. That’s something I encourage at Bogart’s.
DMGLB: What’s the most popular beverage you serve?
JoAnn: Our mochas are the most popular beverage. In winter, we serve mostly hot mochas but in summer the iced and blended ones are great to take across the street to the beach!
DMGLB: Do you ever get any strange beverage requests?
JoAnn: We encourage our guests to customize their drinks, which leads to plenty of interesting requests. If an order combination turns out spectacular, we may even feature it on our “Specials” board.
DMGLB: We’ve heard people order sugar-free, extra-hot, nonfat, no-whip, decaf coffee drinks. Is there a coffee house rule on how many adjectives are too many?
JoAnn: It does make me laugh when I hear so many “particulars” but I definitely appreciate when a customer knows exactly what they want. We want the customers to be happy with what they get, so if they know how to order it, more power to them!
DMGLB: What advice do you have for tourists to help them enjoy their stay in Seal Beach?
JoAnn: Start with a fresh coffee at Bogart’s Coffee House at the foot of the pier, then a walk along the beach. Maybe visitors could try a surf lesson or watch the kite surfing, then a walk along Main Street to enjoy the shops and restaurants. Seal Beach is one of the last remaining Beach Towns in southern California. There is a lot to enjoy. See you at Bogart’s!
